Day Five: God is With His people
Sermon Point: Just like God reminded Moses at the burning bush that He was with him, so the preincarnate Jesus – the Commander of the Army of the Lord – came to remind Joshua that He was with him. He reminded Joshua who was in charge as Joshua prepared himself and the rest of God’s people to do battle against the giants of the land. Joshua did the only thing he could do: he fell on his face and worshipped. He knew he was in the presence of holiness, so he bowed before Him in reverent humility.
The knowledge of God’s presence with him was the key to having the faith Joshua would need to lead Israel to slay the Canaanite giants. It is the same for us today. God is with us! If we truly believe that, let us behave accordingly and go and make disciples!
Truth: In John 14:16-17, Jesus says, “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever – the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.”
Reflection: In what ways can you become more aware of God’s presence in your daily life? How can this awareness change the way you approach your daily tasks and challenges?
Response: If you are born again, then everywhere you walk is holy ground because Christ’s Spirit lives in you! Watch this video from this past Sunday’s worship service. Forward this song to someone outside of FM whose faith can be strengthened today with this reminder – and pray that both of you will live lives that reflect God’s holiness to all those around you!
