MONDAY

Day One: Review of Context

Truth: 1 Peter 3:1-7 says, “Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives, when they see your respectful and pure conduct. Do not let your adorning be external – the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear – but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious. For this is how the holy women who hoped in God used to adorn themselves, by submitting to their own husbands, as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. And you are her children, if you do good and do not fear anything that is frightening. Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.”

Sermon Point: We’ve seen over the past several weeks that without the right biblical and historical context, passages about marriage can be badly misinterpreted, leading people to justify everything from male domination to women domineering over passive husbands. Throughout history – and even in Peter’s own day – phrases like “rule over” or “be subject to your husbands” have been twisted into harmful extremes. Peter clarifies the Truth about how God designed marriage by calling wives – some married to unbelieving husbands, some to believing ones – to live with respectful, pure conduct that God may use to draw their husbands to Christ. He summarizes their calling as submission expressed through respect, purity, gentleness, quiet strength, and a fearless trust in God, even when their marriage is difficult.

Application: Identify one relational behavior that could help your spouse (or another close family member) flourish spiritually – a word of encouragement, a shift in tone, a small act of service, or a moment of patient listening that reflects Christ and honors God’s original design for men and women in partnership.

Kingdom Prayer Focus:

  • Praise God that He created man and woman to stand side‑by‑side as partners
  • Repent of any habits, assumptions, or fears that have distorted God’s design
  • Pray that our relationships reflect the beauty of God’s original intention

TUESDAY

Day Two: Husbands, Live with Your Wives in an Understanding Way

Sermon Point: After addressing believing wives, Peter turns to believing husbands, reminding them that their calling is every bit as weighty. He commands husbands to “live with” their wives – a word that, in the original language, means to dwell together in true partnership, creating a shared, nurturing environment where life is fully experienced side‑by‑side. Peter clarifies this with the phrase “in an understanding way.” In other words, they are to live lives shaped by knowing God, not merely by understanding their spouse. Believing husbands must let their behavior match their belief, serving their wives with the same humility and love Christ showed His disciples. And the word “likewise” reminds husbands that God is the ultimate authority, and the husband’s responsibility is to cultivate a marriage environment that reflects God’s design and honors His sovereignty.

Application: Identify a place in your home where you can make things more nurturing, peaceful, or supportive, and take a concrete step toward shaping it.

Kingdom Prayer Focus:

  • Thank God for showing us in Christ what humble and loving authority looks like
  • Pray that we would be fully dependent on the Holy Spirit in all things
  • Pray for marriages within FM that honor God’s sovereignty and mirror His holiness

WEDNESDAY

Day Three: The Weaker Vessel

Sermon Point: Peter tells believing husbands to honor their wives, valuing them as precious because God Himself holds His beloved daughters in honor. He calls husbands to recognize physical differences not as grounds for abuse but as reasons to protect, cherish, and esteem their wives as indispensable. This honor looks like valuing, providing for, and creating a sense of safety and security – not controlling, demanding, or dominating. Peter’s point is that the so‑called “weaker vessel” is actually indispensable, like the most delicate and vital parts of the body, and therefore worthy of special care, security, and love. True biblical leadership looks like partnership, service, and honor, not entitlement or authority-seeking.

Application: Identify an act of service that you could do for a spouse (or someone in your family) – do one of their chores, knock something out on the home project list, make dinner extra special, etc. In other words, practice honoring another in humility and love.

Kingdom Prayer Focus:

  • Pray for husbands at FM
  • Pray that Truth would reshape our understanding of biblical leadership

THURSDAY

Day Four: Heirs of The Grace

Sermon Point: Peter reminds husbands that their wives are full co‑heirs of the grace of life, sharing the same salvation, the same eternal inheritance, and the same standing before God. Though men and women have different roles, they are one in Christ, united by the grace that saved them both in exactly the same way. That grace not only reconciles them to God but also empowers repentance, forgiveness, and unity within marriage. Because of this shared inheritance, husbands must treat their wives as partners – serving, honoring, and cherishing them as fellow recipients of God’s abundant mercy and eternal life.

Application: Man or woman, married or single…if we’ve been saved by grace, then we’re called to be and make fully devoted disciples of Jesus Christ, starting in our homes. So, today, GO – make disciples for God’s Glory Alone.

Kingdom Prayer Focus:

  • Praise Jesus for making reconciliation with the Father possible
  • Praise the Spirit for giving us the power to reconcile with one another
  • Pray that God would transform our homes into living pictures of His redeeming work

FRIDAY

Day Five: Unhindered Prayers

Sermon Point: Peter ends by revealing the deepest purpose behind all his instruction to husbands and wives: God designed marriage so that their prayers would remain unhindered, preserving a vibrant relationship with Him. When husbands and wives refuse God’s design – idolizing marriage, demanding their own way, or living in constant strife – their prayers become obstructed, and intimacy with God suffers. But when both partners submit to God’s authority, practice repentance and forgiveness, and build one another up in Christ, their shared life becomes a Spirit‑filled union that strengthens their communion with God. As each spouse grows closer to the Lord, they inevitably grow closer to one another, forming the kind of marriage God intended from the beginning.

Application: Choose a simple, consistent prayer practice to share with your spouse (a nightly prayer, a weekly prayer walk, or a morning prayer) that keeps your relationship with God central and unhindered.

Kingdom Prayer Focus:

  • Ask that God would shape FM marriages into the kinds of partnerships He intended from the beginning
  • Pray that God would strengthen our intimacy with Him
  • Pray that FM homes be places where God’s peace reigns and His presence is experienced
